Rio Grande Valley leads Southwest border in migrant encounters, CBP says

Migrant encounters by U.S. Border Patrol agents along the Southwest border dropped by 426 from July to August, according to data U.S. Customs and Border Protection released Wednesday. August recorded 8,870 encounters along the border with Mexico, down from 9,296 in July.

The Rio Grande Valley Sector continues to lead the nine Southwest border sectors in encounters, with 2,101 in August.

In the latest episode of Border Report Live, host Sandra Sanchez asked RGV Sector Chief Patrol Agent Jared Ashby about the continued high number of migrants agents say are crossing illegally from Mexico into the region.
