Amillia Garcia pleaded guilty on Monday in Albuquerque to child abandonment and tampering with evidence over the death of her two-year-old child. She faces up to 10 years in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced in two months.
Garcia’s two-year-old child accidentally shot himself with a gun that Garcia had in her purse, according to the report. Police reports state that other adults in the apartment unit took the gun and fled the complex after the shooting.
Garcia said she bought the gun for “protection” because of prior domestic disputes with a family member. She pleaded guilty to child abandonment and tampering with evidence.
