Repeat offender guilty in 2024 BCSO chase in Albuquerque, gets 15 years
A repeat offender from Albuquerque was sentenced to 15 years in federal prison this week after pleading guilty to drug and weapons charges stemming from a 2024 chase with Bernalillo County sheriff’s deputies. Jude Schulte, 36, admitted to leading deputies on the pursuit and carrying several weapons.
It was a Tuesday night in late January 2024 when a BCSO deputy spotted a red Dodge Challenger that had been reported stolen, according to court records. The deputy had chased the same car twice earlier that month, once at more than 100 miles per hour, but the driver got away both times.
Deputies used air support to track the vehicle and deployed spike strips that disabled three of its tires, the records state. The driver then traveled the wrong way down Coors for about a minute before stopping and backing up, as if to turn around.
Deputies surrounded the car, which held a man and a woman inside, and shot out the driver’s window with bean bags. Schulte tried to run.
Schulte has a lengthy criminal history. More than a decade ago, he was acquitted of murder at a northeast Albuquerque apartment complex but was convicted of assault and other charges. In 2016, he was sentenced to seven years in federal prison for trafficking meth.
As part of his plea deal, Schulte will serve the next 15 years in prison.
