Suspected drug trafficker arrested after Los Lunas chase

A Los Lunas man suspected of drug trafficking was arrested after a chase by Valencia County Sheriff’s deputies, according to the sheriff’s office. The arrest of 46-year-old Rashaun Thompson came after authorities went to his Los Lunas home on July 31 to serve a warrant on behalf of the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.

The warrant was for distributing drugs and possessing a gun as a felon. After authorities made their presence known, Thompson took off, the sheriff’s office reported.

Deputies searched for Thompson in and around his home. A neighbor called 911 to report seeing Thompson in their backyard hopping the fence. After 20 minutes, deputies spotted him.

During the arrest, a VCSO deputy handcuffed Thompson and asked why he ran. “He was scared for his life,” according to the sheriff’s office.

Thompson said he was scared for his life.

Thompson’s criminal records show two other pending cases with charges related to drug trafficking and possessing drugs. VCSO then executed a search warrant with a K9.

Deputies said they found two guns, fentanyl, meth and a significant amount of cash inside the car and his home. Thompson is facing charges for resisting arrest, trafficking and possessing drugs. He has a scheduled arraignment in court next Wednesday.
