Early Voting in Albuquerque Ends Saturday: 20 Locations, Hours, and What to Bring

Expanded early voting in Bernalillo County runs through Saturday, Oct. 31. Voters can cast a ballot at any of 20 locations across the county. Most sites are open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Clerk’s Annex at 1500 Lomas Blvd. NW in Albuquerque opened early voting on Oct. 6. All early voting sites also open on Election Day.

As of Monday, Oct. 26, 94,092 ballots had been cast through early in-person voting and absentee voting in the county. The figure comes from the Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office. Expanded voting at 20 locations began on Oct. 17.

Bernalillo County uses voting convenience centers. A voter can cast a ballot at any voting location in the county. No voter is assigned to one specific precinct location for early voting.

Same-day registration is available. It is offered at all early voting locations. Eligible voters can register or update a registration and vote during the same visit. Identification required under New Mexico law applies to same-day registration.

Absentee ballots need attention now. Oct. 27 was the last recommended day to return a completed absentee ballot by mail. Voters who still hold a ballot can hand deliver it to a voting location or an official drop box.

All absentee ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3. Election Day voting runs from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 74 locations will be open.

“Whether you vote early, absentee or on Election Day, make a plan and choose the option that works best for you,” Clerk Michelle S. Kavanaugh said. The clerk joined first-day voters at the Clerk’s Annex when early voting began.

Early voting lets voters cast a ballot before Election Day. A voting convenience center is a site where any county voter can vote. Same-day registration lets an eligible voter register and vote in one visit.

Albuquerque voters can call the Clerk’s Office at 505-243-VOTE for voting questions. Voters can also ask to see a sample ballot at any early voting site.
