Goodwill offers Halloweekend costume savings across New Mexico stores

Goodwill Industries of New Mexico launched a holiday promotion across statewide stores on Friday. The three-day shopping event brings discounts on seasonal costumes and festive home decorations. The sale ends Sunday.

Store manager Kenneth Estrada said customers who buy three items get a fourth for forty percent off.

“It’s going to be a great event for people to come in and grab great costumes for everybody, for the family and for everybody else. It’s buy 3 items and get one for 40 percent off, as well,” says Goodwill store manager Kenneth Estrada.

Inventory changes daily. Workers place three thousand new items onto retail racks every single day. Marketing and development officer Melissa Stock said the selection offers unique finds for shoppers.

“The thing about Goodwill is that you just never know what’s going to happen. We are putting 3,000 items into stores every single day I mean, you’ve got to keep an eye on what’s happening here at Goodwill,” says Melissa Stock, the marketing and development officer with Goodwill Industries of New Mexico.

Shoppers can build custom outfits or buy standard costumes for lower prices. Children frequently seek classic outfits such as firemen or hot dogs.

Employees wearing bright orange aprons serve as costume consultants inside the stores. Directional signs throughout the building guide customers through different costume ideas.

“Anybody you see in a bright orange apron is ready to consult with you on your dream costume. So, if you’re not quite sure where to start, we’ve got signs all over the store that say ‘do this if you want to do that’ and our costume consultants, they live for Halloween season because it’s so much fun to help people figure out exactly what they want to be,” says Melissa.

Retail locations offer holiday decorations including signs, dishes, shot glasses, purses and pumpkin accessories. Families can use these items to build haunted house displays on a budget.

Locations across New Mexico feature an inflatable display for family photos. Customers can take group pictures together in front of the setup.

“There is an inflatable at every single location we have here in New Mexico within Goodwill. It’s a great photo-op you can put the friends, the family members all together in front of it and you guys can take a great photo in front of it for you guys to have,” said Estrada.

Goodwill encourages customers to donate costumes back once the spooky season finishes. Returning used outfits provides affordable items for next year.

Goodwill operates non-profit retail stores that sell donated clothing and household goods. Store revenue directly funds job training and employment placement services for local residents.

Store purchases support job training programs across New Mexico communities.

“It’s so important that you stop at Goodwill first and find what you are looking for. 88 cents of every dollar you spend here go towards supporting our mission of helping people find jobs,” says Stock.
