New Mexico to host Medicaid information session on new work rules

New Mexico will host a free virtual information session on new federal Medicaid requirements. The session is aimed at helping residents understand work and activity rules taking effect in 2027.

The New Mexico Health Care Authority (HCA) will run the session on Wednesday, Sept. 23, from noon to 1:30 p.m. MT.

The HCA will explain the new work or activity rules, which start Jan. 1, 2027 for most adults ages 19 to 64. The session will cover who must meet the rules and who may be exempt.

Topics will include more frequent Medicaid renewals. Members subject to the work or activity rule may need to renew every six months instead of every 12 months.

Other topics include changes in Medicaid eligibility for some lawfully present immigrants, new limits on retroactive coverage for new applicants, and where to find job or volunteering opportunities to meet the requirements.
