In-N-Out managers in California earn $200,000 a year

In-N-Out Burger store managers in California earn an average of $200,000 a year, according to the Southern California-based fast-food chain. The figure is a sharp rise from the $163,000 the average manager was making in 2018, Forbes reported.

The pay far exceeds the industry norm. The average base salary for a fast-food manager in California is $68,774, according to Indeed.

“Our founders, Harry and Esther Snyder, believed not only in taking great care of our Customers, but also in taking really great care of our Associates,” an In-N-Out spokesperson told Inc. “Their philosophy was to treat Associates like family and strive to be an outstanding employer, and paying higher-than-normal wages was one important part of that philosophy.”

Managers typically start as hourly employees and move up through an internal training program, the company said, and most have been with the company for about 15 years. That is well longer than the one to two years an average quick-service manager stays in the role.

In-N-Outh credits its higher pay, benefits and promotion-from-within culture for helping the company hold onto employees in an industry known for high turnover.

“We’re deeply grateful for our exceptional family of associates and the excellent job they do taking care of our customers every day,” In-N-Out told Inc.
