Duncan Sheik, the Grammy and Tony award-winning musician, is in critical but stable condition, according to a post on the singer’s official Instagram account. No reason was given for Sheik’s health condition, and his family asked for privacy in the social media post.
Sheik is best known for his 1996 hit single “Barely Breathing,” for which he received a Best Pop Vocal Performance Grammy nomination.
He won a Grammy Award in 2008 for Best Musical Show Album, for the recording of his 2006 Broadway production “Spring Awakening.”
“Spring Awakening,” for which Sheik wrote the music, also won two Tony Awards.
Sheik has written music and/or lyrics for multiple stage productions, including 2012’s “Alice by Heart,” inspired by “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” His other credits include the 2013 Broadway production of Bret Easton Ellis’ “American Psycho” and 2019’s adaptation of Sue Monk Kidd’s novel “The Secret Life of Bees.”
Sheik’s family said they would give updates when appropriate, ending the post by saying: “Thank you for the continued love and support.”
Sheik is 56.
