Target’s 2026 car seat trade-in runs Sept. 20 to Oct. 3, offers 20% off baby gear
Target will accept old and expired car seats in any condition in exchange for 20% off new baby gear during its 2026 car seat trade-in, running Sept. 20 to Oct. 3. The discount applies to two purchases made through the Target app.
Infant seats, car seat bases and booster seats all qualify, even if they are expired or damaged. Materials from the dropped-off seats will be recycled into items including plastic buckets, carpet padding, construction materials and storage bins, Target says.
“In a way that it won’t be reused by anyone” is how Target recommends disposing of a child seat, according to the retailer.
Car seats typically expire after 7 to 10 years. Changing temperatures create wear and tear that can eventually make the seats unsafe, even when they have not been in an accident. The manufacturing label on each seat lists its expiration date.
Those who turn in a car seat will get a 20% off Target Circle bonus, usable on two purchases. Eligible items include a new car seat, stroller, high chair, play yard, swing, rocker and other baby gear. Shoppers need to download the Target app to claim the deal.
Since launching the trade-in program in 2016, Target says it has recycled materials from more than 3.5 million car seats.
