Magdalena area prescribed burn planned on 200 acres

Federal officials plan to begin a prescribed burn of about 200 acres on the Cibola National Forest as soon as Sunday, the forest’s officials said. The multi-day operation is meant to build on wildfire protection efforts as recent rainfall reduces fire risk across New Mexico.

The burn is set to take place just south of Magdalena, according to Cibola National Forest officials.

Smoke from the operation may be visible in Magdalena and in Alamo.
