Cowboys defense braces for Jayden Daniels in Dallas

The Dallas Cowboys defense is preparing to face Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels this week, coming off a Sunday night loss in which New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart ran eight times for 59 yards. Daniels presents a significant challenge with his ability to run and throw on the move, and Dallas head coach Brian Schottenheimer pointed to his growth as a passer.

Across 25 career games, Daniels has rushed for 1,200 yards, the most by any quarterback in Washington franchise history.

In his previous matchup against the Cowboys, Daniels played just one half and a single possession, recording eight carries for 35 yards and a touchdown.

Schottenheimer noted the growth in Daniels’ passing and decision-making abilities.

“I think how quick he gets the ball out of his hand. I think you see a quarterback’s very decisive. He’s got a quick release, and I think there’s a processing speed that maybe he didn’t have in the beginning, where the game seems to have slowed down for him and he’s got some weapons,” Schottenheimer said.

The game against Washington is part of a challenging stretch for the Dallas defense. Following their game against Daniels, the Cowboys are scheduled to face Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, followed by Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud.
