Celeste frozen pizza brand to be discontinued by Conagra Brands

The frozen single-serving line founded by “Mama” Celeste Lizzio in Chicago is ending production. Remaining store inventory will be sold until supplies are completely gone. Conagra Brands revealed the decision during its fiscal 2027 first-quarter earnings call.

Conagra purchased the label in 2018. That purchase came through an acquisition of Pinnacle Foods. Customers may still find the products in grocery store freezers.

Lizzio and her husband, Anthony, created the recipe for their Chicago restaurant in 1937. The couple closed the restaurant location in 1962. They continued selling their pizzas to other eateries, according to Reference.org.

Lizzio died in 1988. She was 80 years old. The business previously operated under the name “Mama Celeste.”

Food manufacturing companies periodically review older product lines across regional markets like Chicago. Grocery retailers clear out remaining warehouse stock during brand retirements.

The Chicago-born label built its following on single-serving meals for generations of consumers. Shoppers will see empty freezer shelves once current stock runs out.
