Bernalillo County seeks artist for new fire station in Albuquerque
Local officials want an artist to create public artwork at a newly constructed emergency facility in Albuquerque. The project will highlight emergency responders and honor the local community. The Bernalillo County Arts Board manages the selection process.
The site is Bernalillo County Fire & Rescue Station 36, located at 6810 Edith Blvd. NE in the North Valley. The total project budget is $80,000. That total covers all costs to create and install the piece.
Applicants must live in New Mexico, Oklahoma, Utah, Arizona, Colorado or Texas. The selected design must be durable and low-maintenance. It should reflect the heritage of BCFR and its service to North Valley residents.
The energy-efficient station includes four apparatus bays, 12 bunk rooms and dedicated wellness areas. It will soon house New Mexico’s first electric fire truck. Crews will place the artwork outside the Community Risk Reduction Center.
County fire stations provide emergency response and risk reduction services to surrounding neighborhoods. Public art displays at municipal stations connect first responders with local residents.
Artists must submit their applications online before the deadline. The application window closes on Friday, Oct. 23, at 11:59 p.m. in Albuquerque.
