Baby Sleep Gripe Water recalled over undeclared alcohol content

Pacific Health Sciences is voluntarily recalling one lot of infant soothing supplement across the United States. Federal tests discovered unlisted alcohol compounds in bottles designed to relieve baby gas.

The recall affects Babies’ Magic Tea brand Baby Sleep Gripe Water, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Laboratory testing detected ethanol, methanol, and isopropanol. These ingredients were missing from the product label.

“Their presence may pose a risk depending on the amount consumed and the age and body weight of the person using the product,” warns the recall.

Measured levels reached about 8.3% ethanol, 0.35% methanol, and 0.48% isopropanol, the recall stated. Online retailers including Amazon and www.secretsoftea.com sold the dietary supplement across the country.

Caregivers should check their homes for the affected lot. Details for the recalled product include:

  • Product: Babies’ Magic Tea brand Baby Sleep Gripe Water
  • Lot Number: 25122bw
  • Best Before: 12/2028
  • Package: 4 fl oz (approximately 118 mL) amber bottle inside a blue cardboard box. The lot number appears on the bottom of the box and on a side panel of the bottle. An oral syringe is included in the box.

Pacific Health Sciences reported no adverse medical events related to the product so far. Anyone experiencing symptoms should seek medical attention. Parents should also contact Pacific Health Sciences.

The Food and Drug Administration monitors distributed dietary supplements to protect consumer safety. Companies initiate voluntary recalls when unlisted substances create potential health hazards.

Parents must stop using this specific lot immediately. Caregivers across the country can return the product for a refund.
