Contreras exits Red Sox game in Arlington after hit by pitch
Boston Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras left Thursday night’s game against the Texas Rangers in the eighth inning after being hit by a pitch in the area of the right hand. The hit-by-pitch came on a first-pitch sinker from Jakob Junis, prompting a visit from a team trainer before Contreras headed to the dugout.
Contreras was struck after Wilyer Abreu drew a leadoff walk with the Rangers leading 3-1. He walked to first base in obvious pain, was examined by a team trainer, and headed to the dugout.
Contreras was previously 1 for 3 with a single.
He was hit by a pitch Wednesday night after hitting a two-run home run in the first inning of the Red Sox’s 7-3 loss to the Rangers.
Two batters after Contreras left, Trevor Story hit a three-run home run off Jacob Latz.
