Kyiv hit in missile-and-airwave attack, 16 hurt including two children
A Russian barrage of missiles and drones struck Ukraine’s capital and the surrounding region overnight and into Thursday morning, injuring at least 16 people, including two children. Authorities recorded strikes across multiple locations in the capital and the wider region.
The Kyiv City Military Administration said the attacks were recorded at more than 10 locations. A 10-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy were among the injured, the administration said in a statement on Telegram.
Ukraine’s Air Force said it destroyed or suppressed 131 Russian aerial targets during the overnight attack. The main areas targeted were the Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia and Odesa regions, it said. Strikes were recorded at 36 locations, while debris from intercepted targets fell at five locations.
The attack involved ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as 157 drones and decoys, it said.
Russia’s Defense Ministry said the military hit metallurgical and electronics plants, factories of the military-industrial complex, energy and transport facilities in the Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia and Odesa regions. The ministry also reported that three bulk carriers and a ferry involved in carrying supplies for the Ukrainian military were hit in the port of Chornomorsk.
In Odesa, seven people were injured, including two children, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service. Apartments on the 14th through 16th floors of a residential building were damaged. A private residential building in Odesa was also destroyed, while warehouses, a kindergarten, cars and garages were damaged at other locations, the service said in a statement on Telegram.
In Kyiv’s Dniprovsky district, a warehouse, an office building, residential buildings and cars were damaged, according to local authorities. A warehouse was damaged in the Solomyansky district, and a warehouse and cars were damaged in Darnitsky district. In the Podilsky district, the roof of a non-residential building was damaged, authorities said.
In the Kyiv region, civilian areas and infrastructure were targeted across the Obukhiv, Brovary, Fastiv and Bucha districts, according to Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the Kyiv Regional Administration.
A total of 33 sites were damaged, Tkachenko said in a statement on Telegram. The heaviest damage was reported in Brovary district, where 14 sites were hit, and Fastiv district, where 10 were damaged. The damaged sites included private homes, warehouses, production facilities and vehicles. No casualties or injuries were reported, he said.
