New Mexico county revenues grew 9% last fiscal year, audit shows

New Mexico county government balances grew 9% between July 2024 and June 2025 compared to the prior year, according to a new audit of nearly all counties’ revenues. The audit shows Lea County holding more than $800 million and Bernalillo County with more than $650 million, while De Baca County had the smallest balance at a little more than $6 million.

Most counties collect money from state and federal governments, charge service fees, and tax activities and property to pay for services and infrastructure. The Legislative Finance Committee compiles the totals into an interactive report for legislators to review the financial standing of county entities.

No county-by-county breakdown beyond the three figures cited was included in the report.
