TEDx makes Las Cruces debut at NMSU on Oct. 2

TEDx will hold its first event in Las Cruces on Friday, Oct. 2, at New Mexico State University. The inaugural TEDxNMSU gathering is set for 8 a.m. to noon at Corbett Center Student Union on the Las Cruces campus.

The event follows the familiar TED Talks format, featuring short presentations in which speakers share ideas with an audience. NMSU kinesiology doctoral student Chukwuebuka Osuji organized the debut event, drawing on earlier experience as a TEDx volunteer.

“I felt that TEDxNMSU could become a unifying platform, one that brings these voices together, celebrates our diversity and gives people an opportunity to share ideas that can inspire change,” Osuji said. “What started as a conversation is now becoming something much bigger, and hopefully, the beginning of an important chapter in the history of NMSU and the Las Cruces community.”

The theme is collective spark, which, according to NMSU, “explores the powerful ideas that emerge when people come together across disciplines, cultures and communities.”

Slated speakers include Lucinda Banegas-Carreon, Matheus Cezarotto, James Hall, Oluwatosin Saibu, Jasmine Brett Stringer and Jason Wyatt. Ross Marks, an NMSU associate professor of digital filmmaking, is the keynote speaker.

The event is sold out. TEDxNMSU talks will be recorded for possible publication on TEDx digital platforms following the event.
