Target to open eight new stores in October across seven states
Target plans to open eight new stores on Oct. 11 across seven states, with one additional location set to follow in November. The openings are the final ones in Target’s plan to launch more than 30 stores in 2026.
The eight October stores are in Tupelo, Mississippi; Bridgehampton, New York; Cookeville, Tennessee; Fort Worth-Chisholm Trail, Texas; Katy Heritage, Texas; Liberty Hill, Texas; and Norfolk-Wards Corner, Virginia, according to a spokesperson. Another store, replacing a shuttered Macy’s in Lima, Ohio, is scheduled to open Nov. 8.
The Tupelo store is set to be the largest Target in Mississippi, covering roughly 148,000 square feet. The three Texas stores will be about the same size, according to Target. The Bridgehampton location will come in at around 90,000 square feet, and the remaining stores will have footprints of about 128,000 square feet. All of the new stores will also feature Starbucks Cafés.
Target previously announced plans to have over 300 new stores by 2035. The retailer opened its 2,000th location in March. Based on Target’s calculations, most U.S. households can find a store within 10 miles of their doorsteps.
According to Target’s website, more than 30 additional stores across 21 states are slated to open eventually:

- Lexington, South Carolina
- Newport/Rock Hill, South Carolina

Many of these stores, including Denver, Monument, Covington, Chubbuck, Meridian, Terre Haute, Hermitage, Gallatin, Dripping Springs, Herriman, Lehi, and Brown Deer, are expected to open in 2027, according to previous reports. The Chelsea location may not open until 2028.
In Meridian, Winter Haven, Denham Springs, Davison, Fayetteville, Williston, Hermitage, Lexington, Newport, Farr West, Farmington, and Albuquerque, Target is set to anchor new or growing developments. In others, Target is replacing former retail spaces, including an old Sears in Clearwater, a theater and office retailer in Fort Lauderdale, a vacant Kmart in Round Lake Beach, and a mall under redevelopment in Chubbuck.
